It's Not Too Late to Send an Overture to General Assembly

Overtures to General Assembly have deadlines. Overtures that do not affect the Constitution but have financial implications are due by April 17 (60 days). An example of a suitable overture would be to send the PUP report out to the churches for their deliberation.

There are a number of overture drafts posted on the Coalition website (www.presbycoalition.org) that are suitable to meet this deadline. Those dealing with life issues, marriage, and divestment, are examples. Several have no financial implications and would be eligible for the May 1 deadline (45 days).

The overture is an effective way for sessions to bring their concerns for change before the GA. Help with content and process is available from the Coalition and renewal partners. Call Terry Schlossberg at 703-680-4571 or email her at terry@presbycoalition.org.

Overtures affecting the constitution have a deadline this year of February 15 (120 days). Deadlines are the dates that overtures must be in the Office of the General Assembly.
